Our spa environment is tailored to you and what matters most to you as you undergo or recover from your cancer treatment. We want you come here as you are; we will ensure your privacy and allow you to retain your dignity. As opposed to large locker rooms in more traditional spas that are shared with other patrons, we provide private, comfortable rooms for you to change in and receive your treatment.
The list of symptoms associated with patients undergoing chemotherapy and radiation is large and includes fatigue, nausea, constipation/diarrhea, and muscular atrophy and pain. It's hard to regain focus on your health and wellness when the fear and unpredictability of cancer takes over.
Massage therapy supports what your body is already trying to do; heal itself and battle against the damage caused by the cancer treatment. It helps to increase circulation, which may help such ailments as a sluggish bowel, and alleviates muscular pain by increasing the body's ability to release lactic acid in the tissue. While receiving massage your mind and body will shift to a more relaxed state - that relaxed state will encourage better quality of sleep, decrease stress, and may help to alleviate nausea. Manual drainage of limbs through massage can help to alleviate edema, while later on massage will help to break down scar tissue adhesions left behind from cancer surgery.
Massage is safest and most beneficial between day 14 and 21 after each round of cancer treatment because you will have regained some of your depleted blood cell counts by this time. Ideally you should be receiving massage about every 3 weeks.
Think of massage as part of your cancer treatment; the part you can actually look forward to! Be assured you will leave with an improved sense of well being. The physical and emotional benefits of massage therapy will stay with you well after your spa visit.
