Tamoxifen is a hormone therapy used to treat breast cancer and prevent recurrence. It is an anti-estrogen drug that blocks the effects of estrogen on cancer cells so that the cancer’s ability to grow is limited. So, although we think Tamoxifen is an important component to a woman’s survivorship, we can’t help but complain about its pesky side effects…and the list seems to never end…and here are just a few:
Hot Flashes: Those of you who suffer from hot flashes know who you are! We carry a great line of Hot Flash pajamas made form a bamboo blend that wicks your sweat away after your flash. We are also going to be getting in hot flash sheet sets and pillow case covers, so you can feel confident that you will sleep with ease. Stay tuned for their arrival.
Hair Loss: Some women experience hair loss or thinning hair while taking tamoxifen. You may want to consider re-shaping your hair and asking your stylist to give you a layered look so that it seems more voluminous. Alternatively, many women find wearing a hair piece helps them transition through the years they are on Tamoxifen. Hair pieces come in natural or synthetic hair and are clipped in to provide you with greater volume and thickness.
Facial Hair: On the other side of the spectrum, some women experience growth of more facial hair than they may have had before. If this is you, don’t worry, you are not alone! Compassionate Beauty understands the side-effects you are dealing with, so feel free to book an appointment with our esthetician to get rid of those pesky whiskers, and leave our doors feeling confident!
Insomnia: Almost 10% of women taking Tamoxifen experience some level of insomnia. That may mean having an unrestful sleep, waking up constantly through the night, or experiencing difficulty falling asleep. Getting into a bed-time ritual will help prepare your body and mind for a restful nights sleep. Draw yourself a warm bath with aromatherapy bath salts, play a calming CD, or spend some time reading a book. At CB, we carry a variety of spa and bath products to help wind you down. We also love our David Young CD’s. Stop in and pick up the essentials to start your bedtime routine today.
